PBCHA is going smoke free! On, December 5, 2016, HUD published a final rule for each Public Housing Agency administering low-income, conventional public housing to initiate a smoke-free policy. The federal rule requires all public housing agencies administering public housing to implement a smoke-free policy no later than 18 months February 3, 2017. As well as indoors, the smoke-free policy must cover all outdoor areas up to 25 feet from the public housing and administrative office buildings. According to the final rule, this policy will improve indoor quality, benefit the health of residents, staff, visitors and vendors; reduce the potential of fire damage, and reduce maintenance cost.
