This program is designed to help tenants with disabilities live independently in the community. The Mainstream Vouchers must be used to assist non-elderly persons with disabilities and their families.
PBCHA will provide rental assistance under its Mainstream Voucher program to assist non-elderly persons with disabilities who are transitioning out of institutional or other segregated setting, at serious risk of institutionalization, or homeless find safe, clean, and affordable housing.
The 2017, 2018, and 2019 Appropriations Acts provided funded for new Mainstream vouchers. Since 2018, HUD has awarded over $500 million in funding to public housing agencies (PHAs) to support 50,000 new Mainstream vouchers.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must meet Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program eligibility requirements
- Be a family that includes at least one person with a disability between the ages of 18-61
- Provide verification of transitioning out of institutional or other segregated setting, at serious risk of institutionalization, or homelessness
